New York, New York (ContentDesk) November 20, 2005 -- New York artist, LUDVIC, is pleased to announce that he will be exhibiting his sculptures at New York University, Broadway Windows. The exhibit titled, "Steel Jam" opens on Friday, November 18, 2005 and will be on display until January 8, 2006. The installation is mounted in five windows at the corner of Broadway and East Tenth Street and is lighted 24 hours a day. The show is curated by Ruth Newman of New York University.Ludvic will be exhibiting pieces from "Folksong of the Midwest," the works are fashioned mostly from American hand tools."A symphony of welded steel becomes a melodious herald of the approaching winter holidays," reads the New York University press release, "Ingeniously fashioned with wit and elegance, this curious assembly of cast metal tools seem to move in response to an appreciative, invisible audience, Giant shears are joined by drills, wrenches and table saws -- like a jazz improvisation, each makes music separately, yet somehow, all play together."The artist says of these works, "What the viewer sees in my sculptures is the flowering of a moment that, once seized and elaborated, is the very act of creation -- never shematic, but transcribed by constant re-figuration. In the end, these sculptures are like the pieces of a puzzle that cannot be put back together, as the elusive attempt at a possible definition disappears.
They survive in their various fragments, as visual chords -- a continuum, created in a steel jam session that only a sculptor's mind can conceive."Photos available. Artist interview available..

Another Dracula, Another Flop
This week Warner Brothers joined the Walt Disney company in attempting to transform Broadway from a venue with a whisper of hope for social relevance into one that presents works that are the intellectual equivalent of Mickey Mouse caper.
If Disney could do it with, for example, The Lion King, why couldn't Warner Brothers find a property to achieve Broadway fame and fortune with? Unfortunately, their imaginations never soared higher than redoing the Dracula legend, based on a contemporary author's odd novelistic take on it.
In order to hew to Disney's proven path to moronic megabucks, Warner hired the same songwriting team Disney did for The Lion King, Elton John and his comparatively invisible lyricist Bernie Taupin.
Fortunately, the show was a no-go from the start. The word of mouth was devastating and the reviews turned out to make the word of mouth sound brilliant.
The question is, why would anybody, given the entire world...

How to Protect Yourself Against the Hidden Cost of Shipping to Trade Shows
Trade Shows are lots of work, but they can generate lots of new business for their participants. In addition to the expense of staffing your booth, food, lodging, display, travel, etc. you need to consider how will you transport your equipment to and from the event. This sounds like a simple task, but few freight carriers deliver to trade shows. Why don't many carriers ship to trade shows? Anytime you have lots of businesses shipping to the same destination on the same day there will be problems.
Every hour the driver must wait in line to unload their delivery will cost the shipper extra money and delay the remaining deliveries in the trailer. This "waiting charge" is in addition to the freight quote given by the freight forwarder or carrier. As a general rule shippers should only be charged waiting fees 30% - 40% of the time. Some of the larger conventions and trade shows incur wait times of four to six hours. The hourly charge, depending on the location, could be $30.00 - $100.00...
